JDE's Joure plant plans to offsets its carbon dioxide emissions by 14,000 tonnes per year. A project with Jacobs Douwe Egberts, in which spent coffee ground are used to generate steam for its processes, hereby reducing the amount of natural gas required. By reusing the 33,000 tones of the by-product it generated each year, the plant in Joure in the Netherlands offset its carbon dioxide emissions by 14,000 tonnes per year.
